Skate Park

There is a skate park a block from our house, and it is Jack's favorite thing to do with his dad. Teddy and I decided to tag along one day to see what it was all about.

Jack warms up by riding between Derek's legs. Then he will sit on the skateboard and ride around. Then once he gets brave he stands up and scoots along (usually holding Derek's finger). He's definitely a daredevil, but also knows his limits.

80s night

For the final day of orientation, there was an 80s night at Bimbo's 365 in San Francisco. All of the students were already out partying and eating all evening, so us partners came and met up separately. After getting a babysitter for Jack and dropping Teddy off at a friend's house (a BIG thank you to Teddy Sr.) I made it to the club with my dancing shoes on. It was a lot of fun to meet all of Derek's peers. He has a great group of people in his class; everyone was really nice (and hammered) and I'm glad to see that Derek is making some good friendships.

Unfortunately I didn't take a single picture there, so all I have is our 'getting ready' photos. Hopefully I can snag some pics from other people.

Derek's getup was classic....people hardly recognized him...and he kept up the persona all night. Thanks babe for a fun night out!

Berkeley

We have been here a week and a half now, and it feels like we've been here a month. I am down to the last few boxes to unpack, and just need to strategically plan the rest of our storage things (space is limited, so organizing and storing is quite the mathematical task).

Derek is super busy with pre-classes and orientation. He's meeting people and trying to get his bearings down just like the rest of us. It has been a lot of exploring the area. The Bay area is a beautiful place with lots of things to do outdoors. It is certainly a lot cooler than we remembered. 55 degrees in August doesn't exactly add up, but it does get me excited for fall!

Living in student housing means lots of people and kids around (which is great for playground time for Jack!) It also means smaller space, no laundry and no dishwasher/disposal. But it's actually not as bad as I thought it'd be.

Teddy took a few days to adjust to his new surroundings, but now he is back to normal and is smiling and chatting with the rest of us. I wanted to snap a few photos, because he hasn't gotten the same air time that Jack did at this age!

We are slowly meeting new people and getting into a rhythm. We miss family and friends but are enjoying our new place.

Good-bye Carlsbad

The week we moved, our sweet friends offered to throw us a good-bye shin dig one evening at the beach. We went down to Ponto beach with some of our closest friends to hang out and have a bonfire. The big boys went surfing and paddle boarding, the girls talked, and the little guys played in the sand.

Jack really misses all of his buddies! Everyday he goes down the list of friends as to who he wants to come play. It is so sad because he had such a great group of buddies! I just can't wait for him to make some new little friends up here in the mean time.

We already miss everyone. After being somewhere new for a week, it really makes you realize how lucky we were to have so many great friends to live so close....if only we could get all of our family to live close too!

We tried to plan things to do 'one more time' like eat at Swami's and other favorite restaurants, our favorite running/biking routes, etc... I also wanted to take Jack to the Botanical Gardens one last time....and this time Derek got to come too! We always have fun there....although it can get really crowded....

We miss Carlsbad but know we'll be back in the area to visit. We are enjoying our new home and love getting to know the area. Until next time!

Teddy's Blessing Day

Teddy at 6 weeks

8 lbs 8 oz 20.5 in

We blessed Teddy at 6 weeks, just before our move. All of Derek's brothers (and our niece Lauryn and her boyfriend John) were able to be in town (for it and for a fun 75th bday fishing outing for his Dad's bday). It was a special and beautiful blessing and we were lucky to have friends and family participate. Teddy was wide awake during it, didn't make a peep (except for a few hiccups) and just basked in the attention.

After church, we headed to a park to have some picnic fun. Nina brought some great food and we brought some toys and games. It was gorgeous weather and we had fun playing croquet, Jack had fun running around the park with 'friends', and Teddy was sweet and cuddly as always. Thanks everyone for a great weekend!
